Oblique Horse Mosaic Art Glass Panel – 10″ x 10″

$299.00

This fabulous panel is part of our Mosaic Horses collection of equestrian home decor. It is 10″ x 10″ in diameter.

Each piece in the Mosaic Collection is the result of a multi-step process, each requiring careful patience and attention to detail. They are equally time consuming and rewarding to make. This panel, with its bold silhouette, highly decorative tiles, and intricate mosaic design, will be a focal point in any equestrian home. It is sure to fit in with any decorating style and be a treasured addition to the surroundings of any horse lover.

Creating it was a 4-step process.
Selecting Glass for the Panel: For the body of the bowl, two rectangles of glass were cut, one ivory with subtle grey streaks in it and the other clear.
Creating the Mosaic Tiles: A piece of rich, deep brown glass was selected as the background for the tiles. It was decorated with iridescent mica paints and then fired in a kiln to a temperature of 1375 degrees to permanently adhere the paint to the glass. After cooling it was cut into small pieces to be used to create the body of the horse.
Creating the Image: The body of the horse was drawn on the ivory glass using a stencil created on a Glowforge laser cutter. The tiles were carefully cut and arranged to fit this shape. They were glued to hold them in place and the ivory glass was then placed on top of the clear in preparation for fusing.
Fusing in the Kiln: The assemblage was carefully placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together.
