Art Glass Seder Plate

This Seder Plate is part of our Spiritual Collection of art glass home decor. It is Y” diameter.

We hope you enjoy the one-of-a-kind art glass piece. It was lovingly hand painted on glass that has a unusual characteristic: the edges shift between green and pink depending on how the light hits them. It is called rhubarb glass because the colors are exactly those of a fresh-cut stalk of rhubarb. As a gift, this will become and instant heirloom. For yourself, it will brighten your Seder table.

Creating it was a 4-step process.
Selecting the Glass: Two pieces of rhubarb glass were cut to the size and shape of the finished piece. It seemed appropriate to use something very special for this plate, which will be the centerpiece of many family seder tables to come.
Creating the Image: Places for six symbolic foods are arranged around the central six pointed Star of David. The star and decorations around the rim were painted with metallic gold glass paint, and the blue of the Israeli flag was used for the word Pesach in the center of the star as well as the names of the foods, written in both Hebrew and English.
Fusing in the Kiln: The two layers were placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 F, the temperature at which the glass melts and the layers fused together.
Shaping the Bowl: At this point the piece was still flat. To create a bowl it was fired one more time. It was placed on a mold and heated to 1250 degrees (a process known as slumping). At this temperature the glass softens and gravity causes it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
