KWPN Breed Symbol Catch-All Dish 4″

This bowl is part of our Breed Symbol Collection of equestrian art glass home decor. It is 4″ in diameter.

Creating the dish was a 5-step process. First two circles of glass were cut to the dimensions of the finished piece, one ivory and the other iridized clear. The Dutch Warmblood breed symbol was created using a process called “powder printing”. Finely ground opaque green glass (known as powder frit) was sifted onto the iridized clear glass using a stencil created on my laser cutter. After lifting the stencil and removing stray glass powder, this circle was placed on top of the ivory circle. The two layers were placed in an electric kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together. After fusing, the edge of the piece was ground to eliminate irregularities and it was fired one more time to 1425 degrees to melt the edge and “fire polish” the rim.
