Airs Above the Ground: Ballotade – Blue on White

$39.00

The 1500’s were the start of the Renaissance in France and it brought a new way of thinking about everything. François Robichon de La Guérinière is the person whose ideas revolutionized the way we train horses. His exercises and approach are still the basis of dressage today. Though his main focus was on the development of the horse’s basic gaits, some movements showcased the highest level of equine development. Piaffe and passage were known as Airs on the Ground, while ballotade, croupade, courbette, and capriole were Airs Above the Ground. They were developed to increase the agility and strength of horses ridden in military engagements.

This tile demonstrates the Ballotade, a dressage movement included in the Airs Above the Ground, in which the horseleaps into the air and tucks his hind legs beneath his body.

Engraved on a Glowforge laser cutter and hand colored. Framed in an upcycled wooden “wall motto” decoration. The tile measures 4″ x 4″. Framed size 6″ x 6″.
