Infrared Art Glass Dish With Iridescent Border 6″
This bowl is part of our Serendipity Collection of art glass home decor. It is 6″ x 6″.
This is an attention-getting piece that will enhance any home. Display it on the accompanying plate stand and admire the colors that change with the light, or use it to brighten your table as a small serving dish. Either way, this is a must-have addition for your home or a foolproof gift for a friend.
Creating it was a 3-step process:
Glass Selection & Assembly: A square of hot, red and orange streaky glass was fitted together with a border of textured and iridized clear glass. It was covered with a 6″ square of clear glass. A sprinkling of large dichroic glass frit was applied as a flourish on top.
Fusing in the Kiln: The piece was placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together.
Shaping the Dish: To create the dish shape, it went back into the kiln, this time on top of a mold, and was heated to 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softened and gravity caused it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
