Snaffle Bit Plate On Iridescent Violet Glass With Green Paint 10″
This bowl is part of our Bit Collection of equestrian art glass home decor. It is 10″ x 10″.
This colorful plate and its bold design is perfect for equestrian enthusiasts and those who appreciate fine artisanal craftsmanship. The iridescent violet glass, like a chameleon, transforms with the play of light. When illuminated from the front, it radiates the vibrant hues of its iridized coating, while backlit, it reveals its softer, pastel purple side. No matter where you choose to display it, it is sure to be a focal point. Whether you’re enhancing your own living space or looking for a special gift for a horse-loving friend or couple, this remarkable creation promises to be a cherished and distinctive addition to any surroundings.
Creating the dish was a 4-step process.
Glass Selection: First two pieces of glass were cut to the dimensions of the finished piece, one clear and the other iridescent transparent lavender.
Creating the Design: The outline of the bits was traced onto the clear glass using a stencil created on my laser cutter. Spring green enamel glass paint was carefully applied to the design. After the glass dried it was placed on top of the clear glass in preparation for fusing.
Fusing in the Kiln: The two layers were placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together. The high heat also made the paint permanently adhere to the glass.
Shaping the Dish: At this point the piece was still flat. To make it into a dish it needed one more firing. It went back into the kiln, this time on top of a mold, and was heated to 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softened and gravity caused it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
