This fabulous panel is part of our Mosaic Horses collection of equestrian home decor. It is 10″ in diameter.

Each piece in the Mosaic Collection is the result of a multi-step process, each requiring careful patience and attention to detail. They are equally time-consuming and rewarding to make. Creating it was a 5-step process.
Selecting the Glass: Two 10″ circles of glass were cut for the background of the panel, one black and the other clear.
Creating the Mosaic Tiles: For the tiles, a piece of light brown glass was selected. It was hand decorated with mica and enamel paints in a grid design and then fired in a kiln to a temperature of 1375 degrees to permanently adhere the paint to the glass. After cooling it was cut into small pieces to be used to create the body of the horse.
Creating the Image: The body of the horse was drawn on the black glass using a stencil created on a Glowforge laser cutter. The tiles were carefully cut and arranged to fit this shape. They were glued to hold them in place and the black glass was then placed on top of the clear in preparation for fusing. As a final touch, small pieces of dichroic glass were placed on the background to appear as stars in the night sky.
Fusing in the Kiln: The two layers of were placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together.
