Chopstix Dish with Rich Coral Glass Border 10″

$159.00

This bowl is part of our Serendipity Collection of art glass home decor. It is 9.75″ x 9.75″.

“Chopstix” is the name of the dramatic glass used in this piece. Manufactured by Bullseye Glass Co., it is clear glass on which black “stringers” (thin, round rods) are randomly affixed. Then the entire sheet, along with the stringers, is covered with a rainbow iridescent coating. The texture created by the rods has the effect of concentrating the coating, creating vivid colors in unpredictable patterns.

This is a stylish piece that makes a standout addition to any home. Display it on the accompanying plate stand and admire the colors that change with the light, or use it to brighten your table as a small serving dish. Either way, this is a must-have addition for your home or a foolproof gift for a friend.

Creating the dish was a 3-step process:
Glass Selection & Assembly: A square of chopstix glass was cut, and strips of transparent coral glass were cut to create a border around it. These pieces were arranged, and then covered with a square of clear glass.
Fusing in the Kiln: The two layers were placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together.
Shaping the Dish: At this point the glass was still flat. To create the dish shape, it went back into the kiln, this time on top of a mold, and was heated to 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softened and gravity caused it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
