$199.00

This showstopper of a plate is part of our Serendipity Collection of art glass home decor. It is 14.5″ in diameter.

It is designed to be both a focal centerpiece when displayed on the accompanying plate stand, where its brilliant dichroic glass and bold design can be admired, and to do double duty as a serving tray for cheese, charcuterie, fruit, or individual desserts. You can’t miss with this versatile art glass piece. Its brilliance and rich cobalt blue color will never grow old.

Creating it was a 5-step process.
Selecting Glass for the Plate: Two large circles of glass were cut to form the plate, one transparent cobalt blue and the other clear.
Creating the Rays: To make room for the dichroic glass rays, two strips of cobalt glass were cut out of the blue circle. These strips were traced onto paper to use as templates when arranging the dichroic glass mosaics.
Making the Dichroic Glass Mosaics:Small pieces of dichroic glass, of a wide variety of colors, patterns and textures, were cut and carefully arranged on the paper templates.
Assembling the Plate: The cobalt blue glass pieces, excluding the rays, were reassembled on top of the clear circle of glass. They were glued to hold them in place. Next, the pieces of glass for the mosaics were transferred from the paper templates and glued in place on the clear glass, completely filling in the spaces left for the rays.
Fusing in the Kiln: At this point the piece was ready to fuse. It was carefully placed in a kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together.
Adding the Feet: Three clear glass spheres were attached to the bottom of the plate.
