Silver Horse On Leafy Dicro Background Brooch

This eye-catching pin features a silver horse leaping through the air over a pattern of delicate blue leaves, all on a background of black glass. It was made by etching two pieces of dichroic glass and then fusing them together. The horse is on the surface of the brooch and is separated from the leaves by 3mm of clear glass, which gives it depth that the photo doesn’t capture. Dichroic glass is perfect for etching because the bright colors are actually a very thin layer that lies on top of either clear or black glass. The horse was made from silver coated clear glass, and the leaves were made from blue coated black glass. The horse and the leaves you see were protected (using a “resist”) from the etching compound, which dissolved the dichroic colors everyplace else.
