turquoise & yellow glass trinket dish- 3″
This dish is part of our Serendipity Collection of art glass home decor. It measures 3″ x 3″
Creating it was a 5-step process. First, two squares of glass were cut to the size of the finished dish and stacked, with a piece turquoise glass on top of a piece of clear. A sprinkling of yellow and clear frit (bits of gravel sized glass) was applied on top of the turquoise. Then it all went into a kiln and was heated to 1425 degrees, at which point the two layers began to melt and fuse together, while retaining the texture of the frit. After cooling, the edges were ground to eliminate irregularities. One more firing was required to transform it into a dish. To do this the flat, fused glass square was placed in the kiln on top of a mold and heated to 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softens and gravity caused the square to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
I hope you enjoy this unique art glass trinket dish. It is functional as well as beautiful. Use it to at serve small foods like candy, nuts or condiments, collect loose change, hold votive candles, contain paper clips, display decorative soap … the uses are endless. Both pretty and versatile, it is a perfect gift for anyone who appreciates the quality of hand made things, either by itself or as a set of two or more.
