Blue & White Art Glass Catch-All Dish 4″

This small bowl is part of our Serendipity Collection of art glass home decor. It measures 4″ in diameter.

I hope you enjoy this, unique art glass catch-all dish. It is equally at home on a dining table serving small food items like condiments, olives, candy or nuts, or on a desk collecting loose change, keys, or paper clips, or in a bathroom displaying decorative soap,or bedroom holding a votive candle. With so many uses it is a perfect gift for anyone who appreciates nice things. Better yet, make it a set of three for even more creative opportunities to use them.

Creating it was a 4-step process.
Glass Selection: First a circle made from 3 pieces of glass (white, medium blue, and dark blue) was cut to the dimension of the finished bowl. A second circle, the same size, made of clear glass with blue “stringers” running through it, was cut and set atop the tri-color circle.
Fusing in the Kiln: The two layers were placed in the kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts, and all the pieces fused together.
Shaping the Dish: Another firing was required to transform the flat circle into a bowl. This time the fused glass circle was placed in the kiln sitting on top of a mold and was heated to 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softened and gravity caused it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
