Blue & White Art Glass Catch-all Dish 4″

This small bowls is part of ourSerendipity Collection of art glass home decor. It measures 4″ in diameter.

Creating it was a 5-step process. First a circle made from 3 pieces of glass (white, medium blue, and dark blue) was cut to the dimension of the finished bowl. A second circle, the same size, made of clear glass with blue “stringers” running through it, was cut and set atop the tri-color circle. The two layers were placed in the kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts, and all the pieces fused together. Another firing was required to transform the flat circle into a bowl. This time the fused glass circle was placed in the kiln sitting on top of a mold and was heated to 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softened and gravity caused it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.
